Custom Validation Messages 

When a form user enters an invalid response or misses a required field, a generic system error message can sometimes be a friction point that results in form abandonment. 

Custom validation messages allow you to create your own text descriptions to help guide form users on how to resolve a range of common input issues.

These settings can be applied across all forms within your organisation, and overridden at the form level if you want to tailor validation messages for specific forms.

Note: This feature is available on our Enterprise Plan only.

Apply custom validation messages to all forms

  1. Navigate to your Account Settings > Form Settings > Custom Validation Messages.
  2. Edit the default validation messages as required. To undo changes, click Reset to Default.
  3. Click Update to apply these settings to all forms.

Apply custom validation messages to an individual form

  1. Open your form in Edit mode.
  2. Navigate to Form Settings > Usability tab. 
  3. In the Advanced section, click the Define custom validation error messages checkbox
  4. Enter a custom message for each validation error, or leave blank if you want to display the default validation message.
  5. Save and view form to test your validation messages.
